Haven't posted to this in a while... so.. here goes...

I have been working on my song, Autumn leaves for some time now.. and I am still not happy with it.... the detune/dissonance adds something, but takes something as well... so now, I am thinking perhaps of playing it in standard tuning, but then adding a second layer, pitched down 1 step, to give it that sound I am looking for, I dunno.... perhaps I will scrap the whole Idea, and play it straight.... I dunno.... I'll keep ya'all posted.. and will definitely post it when I am done...

hmmm

Hey Jim... as I told you before I really liked your idea with that song.  My suggestion is to use standard tuning but PRODUCE those dissonant effects with chords.  Now, I don't really know the structure of the most common of this called "atonal" chords but you'll know when you are "braking" the rules.  Listen to Wagner's Tristan und Isolde, that will give you an idea of what is to play "dissonant" but still keep a main key and structure.

So, yea... play it with standard tuning and add a layer of strings perhaps that "crashes" with what you have.

Hope that may help you a little... it's just what I've done when trying to get that effect.

Cheers... and good luck.
